PRIVATE COACHING
Experience matters! The ability to assess a climber’s movement, identifying skills and deficiencies; to know a climber’s training needs; to recognize limitations, mental and physical … These are talents that Wills and Lisa have developed through scores of years coaching and climbing. Wills recognized his talent for getting results, when coaching his wife Lisa Rands to world number one in competitive bouldering. Quickly moving from also-ran to Open National Champion, then on to International Champion, Lisa learned first-hand that being the best requires honest assessment, heaps of motivation, AND a good coach.
As skilled coaches Lisa and Wills can recognize weaknesses in a climber’s ability, push the climbers to address those weaknesses through choice of climbs/moves and offer movement pointers. They also address posture and flexibility issues in climbers. Many climbers don’t realize that bad posture or flexibility is restricting their climbing. Where necessary, they will target these issues with stretches and exercises specific to the individual.
Wills and Lisa offer private coaching indoors to adults in groups of one or two for $70 per hour. For those wanting ongoing coaching, discounts are available.

ABOVE: We had the honor of working with this young super-star-in-the-making, Jojo Chi, as she completed her first two v7 boulders outdoors! It was a great pleasure to coach the Chi family on their visit to Chattanooga, November 2018!
Goals: Nora and Augie Chi had their hopes set on competing at the Triple Crown bouldering competition at Horse Pens 40, Alabama. We worked with them, to show them around and coach them prior to the competition. All three siblings took first place in their respective categories!
“Seriously, there’s no way they would’ve done well if it wasn’t for your help!!! Augie said this was the best day of his life!” — Min Chi.
ABOVE: Proud to be coaching Hugo Hoyer, Bouldering National Champion 2019 (Youth C); two-times Youth D National Champion: Bouldering 2018, Sport Climbing 2016.
We met Hugo when he was a raw 8-year old with an astonishing gift for climbing. He was strong, and motivated but his technique and competition game needed some work.
After traveling across the states in search of somewhere cool to live, testing out the climbing options in different cities, and meeting some of the nation’s best coaches, Hugo’s parents moved to Chattanooga so he could get private lessons from us! What a winner… !
